Sayre Middle School and High School Students and Families,
Our school-wide theme for this year is “Be Your Best!” Our administrators, teachers, and staff want to provide the very “BEST” learning environment for our students. We believe that to accomplish this goal and have our students' full attention, we need to limit the use of cell phones and wireless devices. We are implementing a Cell Phone Free Space in all our classrooms, hallways, and restrooms.
Cell phones must be turned off and stored in a hallway locker throughout the school day. The only exception is before school, at lunch, and after school. Phones are not to be carried in students’ pockets or other articles of clothing.
During class, students may NOT use their cell phones for calculators, checking time, music, reading a book, checking their grades, or for any other reason. If there is a medical reason to use a cell phone, that may be allowed per a 504 or health plan, with prior approval.
We understand that it is difficult to feel out of touch, but parents can call the office to relay messages to students or reach their students by email in grades 6-12. Some of the difficulties we face with hundreds of cell phones being used by students include the possibility of:
Students are taking pictures in the classroom of other students without permission and posting on social media.
Students continuously take out their phones during class and in locker rooms.
Students take pictures/videos and post them on TikTok during the school day.
Students watch movies/listening to music while in class.
Students participate in group texts/chats during the day to make fun of other students and teachers.
Thank you for your support as we strive to educate your child in a safe environment that is free from distractions.
