Welcome Back, Eagle Family! Prepare to “Be Your Best!”

Thursday, August 18th, marks the start of a fresh opportunity for everyone to “Be your best.” Over the last few years, students, teachers, administrators, staff, and parents have been challenged in ways never imagined. It has required resilience and perseverance from everyone inside and outside the school walls. Sayre students and staff succeeded in many ways while working through the hardships. A new school year offers a chance to build upon the achievements and respond to the difficulties as invaluable lessons learned. It is the perfect moment to commit to being our best. Although giving maximum effort sounds like an overly simplistic goal, can you imagine the outcomes if everyone committed to doing just that? What if every student, teacher, administrator, staff member, and parent gave their absolute best effort? Learning would increase exponentially with whole-school success and culture transformed. Ultimately, our students would find themselves prepared for a successful launch into the future. Now is the time for everyone, no matter their role, to embrace giving their best effort in every task. Welcome back, Eagles! Prepare to “Be your best!”

Students will notice a few facility upgrades at the middle and high school sites when arriving on campus. The weight room has been transformed this summer with new lighting, flooring, paint, and digital displays, along with additional square footage added to the space through demo. The lobby area is noticeably different with new lighting, paint, ceiling tiles, and digital displays; however, lobby renovations will continue into the fall. When finished, the space will include Sayre Eagles-themed wall and ceiling graphics and all new furnishings. The middle school restrooms are undergoing renovations that will be ready before students arrive. Additionally, students involved in FFA and 4H will utilize a renovated barn at the school farm. The results are sure to please and will serve students well for years to come.

Along with returning most of our staff this year, we welcome several outstanding new members to the Eagle Family! Miranda Coffman has joined the team to provide maintenance-custodial services at the middle school; Sharon Cummins comes on board to teach 2nd grade; Amanda Greer is the new MS-HS Librarian and will lead our online learning program; Hunter Hines comes back to Sayre, where he’ll teach 5th-grade math; Ashley Hixon is stepping into a MS/HS math position while her husband Craig Hixon will teach history classes and head up the Eagle Football program; Kari Johnson officially begins her teaching career in January when she assumes the role of 3rd-grade science/social studies teacher; Melissa Lewman comes to Sayre from Elk City to step into the 4th grade ELA position; Caitlyn (Johnson) Macaulay comes back home where she’ll teach 2nd grade; Chelsea Miller fills one of our Pre-K assistant roles; Michaelanne Nelson will teach physical science while leading the Lady Eagle Softball program; Lori Park returns to her alma-mater to lead the MS and HS Choir programs; Natasha Sanders is one of two paraprofessionals new to the district; Tamara Thacker begins her teaching career within the special education department; Crystal Whitson steps into the secondary activities account custodian role; another Sayre grad, Rodney Wilson, will join us to teach middle school math; and Stephanie Young joins the special education team as a paraprofessional. The new staff members are an excellent complement to an incredible returning staff!
