Distance Learning Day #2

This Wednesday, September 16th

Sayre Schools will conduct its final distance learning practice day Wednesday. Students will follow the schedule below while working from home. We hope to remain open throughout the school year, but we feel it is critical to take one last opportunity to prepare for possible closure periods. This final distance learning practice day will allow us to make one more assessment of our capabilities to effectively deliver instruction virtually while gauging student internet connectivity and device functionality.

Thank you for your help in making this a successful day of distance learning for your kids!

Danny Crabb

Superintendent

Synchronous vs. Asynchronous Learning: A Quick Overview

Synchronous learning refers to all types of learning in which learner(s) and teacher(s) are in the same place, at the same time, in order for learning to take place. This includes live online meetings when the whole class or smaller groups get together. In synchronous learning, students usually go through the learning path together, accompanied by their teacher, who is able to provide support while students are completing tasks and activities.

Asynchronous learning is a student-centered teaching method widely used in online learning. Its basic premise is that learning can occur in different times and spaces particular to each learner, as opposed to synchronous learning at the same time and place with groups of learners and their teacher. In asynchronous learning, teachers usually set up a learning path that students engage with at their own pace.

Staff Dismissal Time

  • The students’ schedule may veer slightly from this due to a grown-up not home to assist with assignments.  But this will be the structure we try to stick to so that parents know when to expect assignments.  Any structure or routine for our little ones is beneficial when they are not at school.

  • All assignments and links to activities will be sent via SeeSaw Family App.  It is also a good practice to check your student’s emails regularly.

  • Attendance will be turned in the day after.  If a student did not participate in the activities assigned, and turn in on Seesaw, they would be counted absent.

  • Take-home bags will be sent home with students. These contain materials and resources to keep at home for asynchronous learning.
