General Science 6th Grade

 

     The course is designed to give the student a basic working background in the realms of Life, Earth, and Physical Science.  The students will be acquainted with various disciplines of these Sciences, the Basic Laws that govern each, and some of the history of their development.

 

The objective of the course is to introduce the student to the following areas of Scientific Study:

 

1.         Earth Science, Life Science, Physical Science and Human Biology and Health.

2.         The Nature of Science.

3.         Skills of Science

 

The methods used:

 

1.     Textbook Readings

2.     Lecture/Discussion

3.     Laboratory Applications

4.     Audio-Visual Presentations

5.     Field Trips

 

 Evaluation of students include:

 

1.     Daily Assignments/Worksheets

2.     Comprehensive Exams

3.     Vocabulary Exams

4.     Laboratory Exercises

CRITERIA

 

     The students will be expected to demonstrate a working knowledge with at least 60% accuracy on the previously stated items on the outline.  Tests will be given periodically covering the course outline.  Notice of tests will be given.

.

 

 

 

     Many of the Oklahoma OAS are met in more than location in this textbook program.  The Students will also be reviewed over previously discussed OAS skills.

     The Nature of Science Emphasis is covered very thoroughly because so much of it is on the CRT.  The Life Science Emphasis is then addressed with many of the OAS are integrated into each part of the series.  The OAS skills are included during the Seventh grade year so they can be reviewed again before testing in the eighth grade
